Sharon Randall

I have been a resident of Alaska since 1971 when my husband and I meandered our way north on an extended ski vacation.  Living around the state for 35 years in various places  (Anchorage, Cordova, King Salmon, and Girdwood), my husband Rich and I now spend winters in Nevada where we were both raised and return to Girdwood yearly to enjoy Alaskan summers.

I first started working in clay in 1978 as a leisure activity and soon became "hooked" taking classes, taking over the family room, and finally building a studio.  I studied at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Fairbanks as well as taking many workshops by nationally acclaimed potters such as Robin Hopper, Dick Lehman, Bobby Siedleman, and Al Tennant.  Japanese historial pottery has been a big influence in my work and style.  Since retirement from the medical field I have been working full time in clay both functional and Raku.  Pottery has been a big part of my life for the past 25 years.  My style and forms evolve in synergy with my life's experiences and extensive travels.  If some of my pieces bring a smile to your face, they have been successful.  My pottery is made to be enjoyed and used daily.

Gas KilnI fire to cone 10 or 2350 degrees F. in porcelain or stoneware clay bodies.  All glazes are made by myself and are lead and barium free.  Functional work is dishwasher and microwave safe and can be used in a non-preheated oven.  Some of my art pieces are Raku fired and strickly non-functional.  They will not hold liquids and should not be used for food.  They are easily recognized by their black clay body and metallic glazes.  I recently have been experimenting with salt firing.  These pieces are tan, carmel variegated.  They are food safe and have also been high fired to 2350 degrees F.

Studio tours are available by request in either Nevada or Alaska.  Please use above contact methods.
